Starky: McCain "already running for president"
Starky has gotten some good print lately. Yesterday, the Tucson Citizen ran an article that focused on McCain's true intentions and commitment to the voters of Arizona. Beneath the headline "McCain MIA in state, rivals say," the article quoted Starky
"He is already running for president in 2008," said Democrat Stuart Starky, a Phoenix schoolteacher looking to oust Arizona's senior senator. "He had breakfast with the Iowa and New Hampshire delegations long before he had breakfast at the Republican Convention with the Arizona delegation. There's no doubt he is in the George Bush campaign because he needs to hold the conservative vote - or get it back."
The article points out that although McCain denies presidential aspirations, he denied the same charge six years ago.

Starky: McCain wrong on Iraq
Stu recently made the following comments highlighting the difference between McCain and himself on the issue of Iraq
"Over 1,000 of our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters have now died in Iraq. The McLaughlin group states that "over 27,000" have been physically wounded or psychologically disabled. Senator McCain says the occupation will last ten to twenty more years if we are to do it right (source Eleanor Clift). Senator McCain stated at the Republican Convention that this war will define our destiny. This war defines the outdated policies and destructive view of Senator McCain and highlights the need for a new vision for Arizona and America.
I have disagreed with Senator McCain about this war from the beginning but we now must debate not the start of this war but the end of it. It is time to bring our soldiers home and to support a United Nations effort to stabilize Iraq.

McCain backs down from pledge to debate Stu
On August 29, The Arizona Republic reported that McCain was willing to debate Stu.
"I'll debate my opponent and run a campaign," McCain said, referring to long-shot Democratic hopeful Stuart Starky of Phoenix.
But evidently the Senator has now declined a League of Women Voters request for such a debate. Is McCani too busy traversing the nation campaigning for Bush to debate his opponent?

Stu has picked up an endorsement from Ms. President PAC which is dedicated to helping Democrats win back the House, Senate and presidency and to electing a woman president to The White House in the future.
U.S. Senate Candidate Stu Starky Endorsed by Ms. President PAC
Sacramento, CA -- In a continuing campaign to help Democrats win back the House, Senate and presidency, Ms. President PAC today endorsed Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Stu Starky in his campaign to win a seat in the U.S. Senate.
"America is ready to win the war on terrorism and rebuild our economy and Stu Starky's leadership in the U.S. Senate is essential to ensuring our success on both fronts," said Mosemarie Boyd, spokeswoman for Ms. President PAC. "Stu is a powerful leader who will serve the great people of Arizona and our nation with excellence when he joins the U.S. Senate next year.
Last month, Ms. President PAC endorsed the Kerry-Edwards ticket at the DNC in Boston and made a $1,500 contribution to Senator Hillary Clinton's HILLPAC to help win back the Senate. The group is currently working to raise money to help Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi win back the U.S. House and become the first woman Speaker in history.

Bush will promote Social Sec. privatization in speech
Bush plans to unveil specific policy reforms of Social Security at his acceptance speech next week in New York, according to a Boston Globe report.
Karen Hughes hinted that Bush would disclose a plan for partial privatization of Social Security. ''You just heard him talk about an ownership society,'' Hughes told reporters. ''He wants to give a chance for younger workers to own a piece of their own retirement.''
Although Republican and Bush privatization schemes haven't made it very far in the past, you can count on Senator McCain to be backing him on Social Security privatization. In his 2000 presidential campaign, McCain was all for privatizing Social Security as seen in the following press release from his campaign
McCain today called for allowing workers for the first time to invest a portion of their Social Security in private accounts.McCain called for “bold, genuine reform that allows workers to invest some of their Social Security savings, privately, in higher yielding accounts.” “Promoting investment in America by every American worker would give lower-income Americans the ownership they deserve in the country we share, as well as grow their Social Security more rapidly,” said McCain.
